Deborah & Godwin’s Intimate Wedding at Colwick Hall

Deborah & Godwin chose to celebrate their wedding at Colwick Hall, a country house venue in the centre of Nottingham set within a peaceful country park. Once home to Lord Byron, the venue combines grand interiors with softer natural surroundings, creating a setting that feels both formal and welcoming.

Their ceremony took place at a Nottingham registry office before guests moved to Colwick Hall for the reception, where the styling focused on elegance, intimacy and making the most of the ballroom’s natural light.

Photographer Leah Lombardi captured the day beautifully, particularly the softness of the reception space and the way light moved through the room as the day progressed.

A Ballroom Designed for Intimate Weddings

One of the strengths of Colwick Hall is its flexibility. While the interiors are grand, the spaces still work beautifully for smaller celebrations when styled carefully.

For Deborah & Godwin’s reception, the ballroom was arranged around one long table positioned through the centre of the room. Long tables in larger spaces can sometimes feel visually lost if they are not styled correctly, so the focus here was on creating enough structure and height to anchor the room while maintaining a sense of intimacy.

The final result felt elegant, exclusive and completely suited to the scale of the wedding.

Place Settings With Soft Colour and Detail

The place settings introduced a refined combination of texture and colour.

Each setting began with an ivory shell edged charger plate, which immediately added detail and softness to the table without feeling overly formal. On top sat a printed menu and place name featuring delicate peach and green illustrations, introducing subtle colour while keeping the overall palette light.

The stationery worked particularly well within the ballroom, where the neutral surroundings allowed softer tones to stand out naturally.

Chair Styling and Tablescape Design

Chairs were dressed with lattice sheer white sashes, adding texture while keeping the room feeling bright and open. The lattice styling worked particularly well within the ballroom setting, introducing detail without competing with the architecture of the space.

Running through the centre of the table were floral arrangements layered with tapered dinner candles in blush and soft pink tones. These were placed within glass candlesticks, which reflected light throughout the room and added height without making the tablescape feel heavy.

Because the ballroom at Colwick Hall is filled with natural light, glass styling elements made complete sense within the space. The candlelight and glass worked together throughout the afternoon and into the evening, helping the room feel warm while still retaining clarity and softness.

Elegant and Intimate

Deborah & Godwin’s wedding is a strong example of how an intimate wedding can still feel impactful within a larger country house venue. Rather than filling the room with unnecessary décor, the styling focused on proportion, texture and light.

The single long table created connection between guests while the floral styling and candlelight ensured the room still felt balanced and complete.

At a venue like Colwick Hall, where the architecture already provides so much character, this more restrained approach allows the styling to enhance the space rather than compete with it.

The result was a wedding that felt elegant, calm and beautifully considered from start to finish.
