Abby and Adam chose The Nevill Arms in Medbourne, Leicestershire, for their reception, creating a relaxed, intimate wedding that felt warm, welcoming and completely personal.

With soft neutral styling, candlelight and simple florals, every detail worked with the character of the pub rather than trying to change it.

Making a Cosy Pub Feel Wedding Ready

One of the biggest advantages of a pub reception is that it already has atmosphere. The Nevill Arms has dark walls, leather banquette seating, wooden floors and warm lighting, so it already feels cosy before you add a single decoration. So rather than filling the room with lots of décor, we kept everything soft and understated.

Long chiffon runners flowed across the wooden tables, layered with bud vases, candlelight and delicate flowers in blush pink, ivory and white. The styling added colour and texture while still letting the pub keep its relaxed feel. The result felt elegant without losing the charm of an English country pub.

Long Tables That Bring Everyone Together

Instead of separate round tables, Abby and Adam chose long banquet tables. They're perfect for an intimate wedding because everyone feels part of the celebration, and they create a lovely atmosphere during the meal.

The styling was designed to run the full length of each table. Copper charger plates added warmth, while textured glass vases held a mixture of roses, gypsophila and seasonal flowers. Tall cylinder candles mixed with smaller tealights created different heights without blocking guests from chatting across the table.

Soft Details That Made a Difference

Sometimes it's the smaller details that pull everything together. The wooden cross-back chairs were dressed with soft ivory draping, finished with personalised wooden chair signs for the bride and groom. Simple menus sat on each place setting with matching wooden name tags, tying in beautifully with the copper charger plates. None of the styling shouted for attention, but together it created a really cohesive look.

Personal Touches Throughout the Day

One of our favourite details was how much personality Abby and Adam included.

Guests were welcomed with a beautifully simple welcome sign before finding their seats using a classic table plan displayed on an easel. At each place setting, guests found a card with a QR code inviting them to upload their own photos from the day - a lovely way to capture all those candid moments that photographers often miss. There were also handwritten children's menus, adding a fun and thoughtful touch that made younger guests feel included.

Keeping the Cake Simple

The semi-naked cake fitted the styling perfectly. Decorated with fresh ivory and blush roses and displayed on a rustic wooden log slice, it looked elegant without being overly formal. Against the warm backdrop of the pub, it felt completely at home. Like the rest of the styling, it complemented the venue rather than competing with it.
