Reece & Naomi’s Medieval Inspired Wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall

Some weddings are memorable because of their styling. Others because of the atmosphere. Reece & Naomi’s wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall managed to achieve both.

Set amongst the trees in rural Leicestershire, The Woodlands is one of those venues that already feels immersed in nature. With its outdoor ceremony space, woodland surroundings and beautiful reception spaces, it provides a wonderful backdrop for couples who want their wedding to feel connected to the countryside.

Reece & Naomi took that one step further, embracing a medieval theme throughout their day. Many of their guests joined in too, arriving in costumes and outfits that added an extra layer of personality and fun to the celebrations.

Captured beautifully by Dan Waters Creative, this was a wedding that felt completely true to the couple while remaining elegant and thoughtfully styled throughout.

A Woodland Ceremony

The outdoor ceremony space at The Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall sits amongst the trees, creating a naturally atmospheric setting for exchanging vows.

For Reece & Naomi's ceremony, we leaned into the woodland surroundings rather than competing with them. The wooden gazebo was dressed with flowing white drapes, softened further with trailing foliage that framed the structure beautifully without obscuring the view of the couple.

At the foot of the gazebo, lanterns, wooden log slices and foliage arrangements created a natural transition between the woodland floor and the ceremony backdrop. The styling felt relaxed and organic, perfectly suited to the setting.

The aisle was lined with black lanterns filled with LED candles, helping draw the eye towards the ceremony space while adding structure to the outdoor setting. Against the autumn leaves and woodland surroundings, the crisp white draping created a striking contrast that photographed beautifully.

One of the joys of styling a venue like The Woodlands is that less often achieves more. The setting already provides so much atmosphere that carefully chosen details can have a significant impact.

Welcoming Guests

We also provided the couple's wooden welcome sign, which greeted guests as they arrived.

Styled with rustic wooden crates, lanterns and foliage, the display immediately established the look and feel of the day. It felt completely at home against the timber backdrop of the venue and tied seamlessly into the woodland inspired styling used elsewhere throughout the wedding.

These are often the details couples overlook during planning, but welcome signage is one of the first things guests interact with and plays an important role in creating a cohesive experience from the moment they arrive.

One Long Table for an Intimate Celebration

For the wedding breakfast, Reece & Naomi chose a single long banquet table, creating a wonderfully intimate atmosphere where all their guests could celebrate together.

Long tables work particularly well for smaller weddings as they encourage conversation and bring everyone together in one shared space. Rather than feeling spread across multiple tables, guests become part of one collective celebration.

The styling reflected the woodland surroundings and medieval influences running throughout the day. A dramatic forest green table runner flowed down the centre of the table, softened with trailing foliage and natural textures.

Floating candles sat within elegant glass holders at varying heights, creating movement and gentle candlelight across the tablescape. Wooden tealight holders, pine cones and greenery added further texture and helped bring the outside in.

Place settings combined black napkins with striking gold scalloped charger plates, creating a rich contrast against the wooden table. The combination felt elegant while still complementing the rustic surroundings of the venue.

The result was a tablescape that felt warm, atmospheric and perfectly suited to an autumn woodland celebration.

A beautiful focal point of their wedding reception was the exquisite wedding cake, created by The Purple Pumpkin Cake Company. The three tiered creation blended perfectly with the theme, and even featured an amazing dragon breathing fire!

A Wedding Full of Personality

What made Reece & Naomi's wedding so special was how confidently they embraced what they loved.

From the medieval influences woven throughout the day to the woodland inspired styling and intimate dining setup, every element felt personal to them. Nothing felt forced or overly complicated. Instead, the styling enhanced the venue and supported the atmosphere they wanted to create.

At The Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall, surrounded by trees, candlelight and their closest family and friends, Reece & Naomi created a wedding that was entirely their own. It was a joy for Sparkle Event Styling to be part of it.
